Mountain gorillas live in only two regions in the world, in the Virunga massif, which stretches between Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. In 2018, the subspecies went from "critically endangered" to "endangered" status in the IUCN Red List.
